Tilia cordata, also known as the small-leaved lime or littleleaf linden, is a moderately large tree that can grow up to 20 meters tall and 15 meters wide. The small-leaved lime is a rounded, conical tree with landscape value that was often used as an espalier form in the past. The leaves are 3 to 6 cm in size, dark green, serrated, and heart-shaped at the base of the leaf. Tilia cordata blooms in June - July. The sweet-scented, yellow, upright flower clusters attract bees. After flowering, small, round fruits with a wing develop. Tilia cordata prefers a sunny location and thrives in any soil, tolerating air pollution and sea wind.
