Tilia cordata, winterlinde of kleinbladige linde is een matig grote boom die tot 20 meter hoog en 15 meter breed kan worden. De winterlinde is een afgeronde kegelvormige boom met landschappelijke waarde die vroeger heel vaak als leivorm werd gebruikt. De bladeren zijn 3 tot 6 cm groot, donkergroen, gezaagd en hartvormig aan de bladvoet. Tilia cordata bloeit in juni - juli. De zoetgeurende, gele, opstaande bloementuilen trekken bijen aan. Na de bloei ontstaan er kleine, ronde vruchtjes met een vleugeltje. De Tilia cordata houdt van een zonnige standplaats en doet het goed op iedere bodem, luchtverontreiniging en zeewind tolerant.
